Whilst walking the Lincolnshire countryside, where I now live, I have been intrigued by the sharp acid yellows as the fields of rape develop their flowers. I particularly wanted to paint these fields as they were before all the flowers opened. I sketched this scene that I have viewed many times, as I have walked the area, and painted in the yellow field with a dryish wash dragged across the paler yellow that was laid down early in the painting.
