When I realised that very old friends of my wife and I had been staying in a gîte near a spot that I had sketched some time previously I decided that I had to paint the scene as a present. I had thought about painting this view on a number of occasions but for some reason or another I had never done so until now. I just hope it will bring them memories of happy days spent at the confluence of the Loire and the Vienne.
