Whilst amongst the vines, one spring, I was captivated by the wildness and colour of the vines as they grew with great vigour. One could almost watch the growth of the the very whippy branches. I wanted to try and capture this aspect of the vineyard as I saw it against the long low buildings of the chai. To achieve this I used both a drawing and scratching out technique within drying washes in the foreground and subsequently drew in the workers trimming back the vines and washed in the buildings in the background.
