Whilst in North Wales I drew this mountain range across the bay. Upon returning to my sutdio I wanted to paint this scene with the passing dark clouds, the contrasting light on the water and the people on the beach. I was interested in the way that the mountains tended to merge with the tones of the horizon and the diminished mountains on the far horizon. I introduced the boat to provide a focal point and add interest.
