Whilst thumbing through an early sketch book I came upon the sketch of this bridge which prompted me to paint it for the second time but on this occasion I wanted deal with the subject in a different way from when I first painted many years ago. Whilst much of the scene is based upon the topography of the area I introduced the wall and stile into the picture and flicked in the two figures on the bridge.
