For many years this tug Hazel and her solitary barge were moored at Greenhithe and I was intrigued by the different ways that one saw these two craft as, when turning on the tide, they perpetually swung into different positions. Over the years I sketched this subject many times, from the same spot, but it was each individual part of the subject that moved, enabling me to get a constantly changing view from the river bank without having to change position.
