It was the textures of the foreground that interested me. I wanted to concentrate on them and to anchor the scene in the Dordogne by way of the roofs that are so typical of the area. The buildings were just painted in with simple washes but I applied masking fluid over a section of the foreground and then removed part of it to create the mottled effects.
