Many years ago when I spent Christmas in northern France I made many sketches of this subject but it was the ones at low tide which provided the most interest. I came back to this subject in recent days and wanted to express the vast distances involved and the textures on the foreshore. The well wrapped up people and the dog walking the sands provided added interest to the subject.
