I was reminded the other day of the time when, in the evening skies, the fires lit in the fields by farmers made a delightful sight. Way back in the 1970s I sketched such a scene in colour and all these years later decided to turn it into a watercolour. It is pure nostalgia but can, I think, take its place in my paintings alongside Dying Elms which I sketched & painted when just a few elm trees remained in our national landscape.
