Cézanne painted Mont Sainte Victoire many times. I chose to visitit whilst in Provence on a hot cloudless day. I was fascinated by the rock formations and found the subject irresistible. I drew it from various angles and made it the first watercolourafter returning home. I laid a very grey pale wash over the mountain area, delineated the shape of the mountain by the sky and then created the form of the mountain using dry brush work. I then used darker tones to draw more attention to the high toned main subject.
